ROAD TRIP SERIES-THE LIBRARY

Hi,

Continuing the Road Trip Series with a pocket page layout.  Grandmama and I would often go the library together.  She would go into the murder mystery section  and I would go into the  youth section.

1-IMG_7245

My Main photo is the bench that sits in from of the library and yes I cut it in half.  I wanted the elements to reflect my feelings and memories.

1-IMG_7248

I used all kinds of elements stickers, letter stickers, paper clips, sequin and a ton of love.

1-IMG_7247

I ripped a page out of the book, stickers and a library stamp.

1-IMG_7246

The Library is a great way to have an adventure with loved ones and one that I will cherish.

Road Trip Series-Heart at Work

Welcome to the second layout in my Road Trip Series!  My grandmother had the heart of a servant and was a great example of servitude.  She had a big heart and such a spirit of forgiveness.  I titled this layout  Heart at work to reflect her spirit.

1-IMG_7249

Grandmama worked at Beecham Memorial Hospital for as long as I could remember.  I would love to meet her at workplace.   I would come to the back of the hospital bursting at the seam to see her in her white uniform and nurses shoes. She would make me a glass of tea and we would hug and greet one another.  I wanted this page to reflect her, her style her liking.  She was very dainty and loved little Nick Knacks and pretty things.  How big her heart was and that she poured it out in everything she did.

1-IMG_7251

1-IMG_7250

I matted my  pictures ones a close up and one is sort of a title picture.  Now that I am a memory keeper I try to take pictures that tell a story as well.  I used opaque Spray Mists  to splatter the background to add some color to the Kraft cardstock.  I heart cardstock.  After the photos I took them off and began to build on my canvas.  I used the Daily Stories Collection by Theresa Collins  and base layered with black cardstock.  I cut up a 4 x 6 journaling card for the days of the week since this LO is work related.  The journaling for this trip was already written so I simply copied and paste.

1-IMG_7253I used a pun in the title that is so fitting, Heart at work.  I wanted to mix titles as I like to do so I used Thickers and my silhouette.

I hope this layout has inspired you to tell your story.

Road Trip Series-Going Postal

Over the Summer my husband took me on a much needed healing road trip.  I had not seen my mom in a while so the trip started with her.  Off to Memphis we headed and surprised her for Mothers Day.  It was great we arrived in the middle of the night hoping not to wake her and we’d wait until the morning. FAIL.  Pepper(my 7 pound snoodle) burst in her room and we were BUSTED! LOL  During this trip we also drove a few more hours south.  I wanted to go back and document all the things/places my Grandmother and I did in her hometown Magnolia, Mississippi  The next series of posts I will share my memories.

Lets begin with Going Postal.  Funny Title for a funny memory.

1-IMG_7254

We arrived at my Grandmothers house although it has been sold it still stands.  Severely Weathered, mis-shapened and covered in a Tarp…..mail box in tact.  Even had mail in it.  The mailbox was the only tangible external thing I capture and as I looked at it closely I realized….A DYNO Label. Is that what was on that mail box…that darn label survived hurricane Katrina!  How Funny.

1-IMG_7255

The Silhouette was working overtime on this layout.  I used a honeycomb and its negative frame from KBS to play off the honeycomb background.  I placed a few buttons, Road Trip veneers and punched out butterfly.

1-IMG_7257

Since this square makes for a large canvas I used  a large title combining Thickers and the Grand Hotel Font.

1-IMG_7258

I could not help whipping out my Dymo Label on this layout too.  I used coordinating letter cardstock from the Sprinkled With Love Collection it seemed to compliment this layout perfectly.

Kim’s Bridal Shower

Whew September is here…where did the summer go?  I don’t know about you but I was all over the place!  Spending time with family, road trips, events all the things that can keep us too busy to document our memories.  I have a backlog of stories to tell…and not a ton of time.  How do you document your memories without a ton of time….Pocket Pages!

1-IMG_7227

1-IMG_7239

This summer my niece (through marriage) who I’d never met got married.  Her shower was simply beautiful, vibrant and warm.  Her colors were vivid so off to my stash I went to secure the essentials.

When using pocket pages try to use unique sizes, it just add a different look to your pages.

1-IMG_7221

I grabbed the boldest of my stash and got to work.

1-IMG_7222

Pocket pages for me are not as easy as 12 x 12 so play around with the arrangement.  Lay out your photos, shuffle them around until you are satisfied with the placement.

1-IMG_7223

Play with color, bring out the colors in your photos. Don’t be afraid to cut your photos either.  Once you have your placement..embellish away.

1-IMG_7229

Use a punch to get rid of empty space in your photos.

Beale Street

Hello!!!!

How are you paper Goddess’s doing?  I am great and I have been crafting, DIY-ing and all sorts of things this summer.  Summer time always is a challenge for me..I want to enjoy the festivities but I also want to hibernate an MAKE!  Grr…so Torn!  When visiting my Mom we had always heard about Memphis in May, Beale Street, MLK Civil Rights Museum and the Lorraine Motel. This layout focuses on Beale Street:

1-IMG_5553

I normally use one photo so I try to change up my style a bit here.  I tried to capture the macro and the micro.  I split the page, used stamps and stars and made the page busy…like the venue.

1-IMG_5557

1-IMG_5558I didn’t use a ton of dimension as it wasn’t needed.  What is raised the the location which is what ‘s important.

Silhouette cut titles my fave and that wrapped up Beale street.

Happy Summer!

Mr and Mrs Hopkins

Greetings!!!

I have been a busy bee!  I haven’t been memory keeping over the last few weeks as I had some other projects underway but this week was dedicated to scrappin.

Now off to what is going on with this title right?  Yea!  Scraps of Color posts weekly challenges and this week is all Weddings as they are popular this time of year.  I orginally started my wedding album when I first began memory keeping, I did not care for the pages I was creating…so I stopped.  Gathered my style. Started over.

1-IMG_5596

1-IMG_5613

I used a Shutter page protector for this layout as it will be the first page in my album. Our wedding was on Valentines Day it was small , elegant  and full of DIYNess and that is what I want my album to reflect. I fell in love with My Minds Eye Ruby, Heirloom and a few other collection some time ago and knew I wanted to incorporate them in my pages.

1-IMG_5608

I ordered our prints from Persnickety Prints and was able to get some nontraditional sizes like this photo at 12 x 12.  TIP: use differnt size photos gives your album a little something different.

1-IMG_5597

I trimmed the hearts from my cardstock and began to layer on both sides of the 6 x 12 panels.  Use good adhesiive as Glitter can be tricky..use something like the best glue ever.

1-IMG_5598

I also added some machine stitching to add details and incorporate the DIY-Ness.

1-IMG_5603

Since my goal is to use my Silhouette on every layout I used it here to cut out my title see the file here.

1-IMG_5604

I think I always have to have a frame on something…even a wedding page 🙂

1-IMG_5606

Well there you have it the first page of my wedding album is complete.  Have a great day!

Happy Fathers Day

Hello,

It’s Fathers Day here in the United States, a day where Dads are honored and remembered.   I wanted to share a layout I complete a few weeks back as a design team project.  My husband and stepson are thick as thieves and this layouts shares a few things that show A Fathers Love.

06-IMG_6394

Here’s a layout that’s all about the story and that was definitely my attempt here.  I also knew I needed something to breakup the colors…I love yellow and black if I am not careful every layout will be these colors, LOL.  I threw in some crimson to make it pop….and it worked!  I cropped the photo down with a frame I made and began to tell the story.  I wanted the journaling to be a little isolated so that I could embellish each story.

A Self Less Act-Kill the Kit Series

Hello,

Welcome to layout number two in this month’s Kill the Kit series.  This was a very special layout.  My grandmother passed away 2 years ago.  She was the best and my closest family member.  When she got ill things were not the same we didn’t talk everyday like we use to, things just changed.  For Mothers day weekend we decided to surprise my Mom in Memphis, its 560 miles.  The day before my husband was running to catch the bus and fell in a pothole!  Ankle Swollen…bad.  Oh no we were leaving the next.  I had just gotten released from my Doctor and the physical therapist for Pirformis Syndrome and was panicked that I may have to drive.  I got of work the next day we got packed and spousie said no worries I will drive.  I said are you sure, he said yes.  He drove to Memphis ….the entire way. I felt so grateful and blesed we to got to to my mom’s at 3:50am.  We rested on Saturday.  Sunday even with a sore foot spousie agreed to drive me to my Grandmothers town another 4 and a half hours so I could go back and capture all the memories that were important to her and I.  It meant the world to me, what a Selfess Act.

1-IMG_6304

I used some stickers from Heidi swap, thickers, and my butterfly punch.

When working with busy or highly textured you can break up the pattern as I have done here.

1-IMG_6308

Interactive layouts rock!

I  used the cut apart sheet and since there were 4 I cut the sheet in strips but did not cut them into 3 x 4’s. That left me with 3 strips of four 3 x 4’s connected together. I figured out which way wanted to cards to fold in accordian shape and then scored them so they would be nice and neat. I did lose a few to make the shape accordian but that was ok with me. I made sure that added to the story.

I love this layout and the story to go with it.  Have you ever created an interactive layout? Do Share.

Scraptastic Kill The Kit May Series

Hello and Happy Memorial Day Weekend to those of you in the US.

Welcome to another kill the kit series….that almost didn’t happen.  My kit had logistical issues. Lets just say I got it last week and May is almost over!  Whew.  This will be a small series as this kit was just the add-on. I owned most of the main kit as a Kit already…go figure!

Here’s a look at the add-on Kit

1-IMG_6273

1-IMG_6275

1-IMG_6276

1-IMG_6274

This was primarily a white/creme based kit…YAY mixed with salmon and mint Green.  There’s a ton of that color scheme so I hope next month’s kit brings change.  The add-on kits are chalked full of bits and pieces which I will talk about at the end of the series.   Many of you know that I changed my diet a few months ago…but I am still able to have most all foods they do have to be altered a bit.  Hot chocolate is one of those things and I lurve me some hot chocolate.  Spousie often makes me drinks, raw juice and smoothies:) you know the hard stuff, lol.  He decided to make me hot chocolate and I remember thinking what is taking him so long?  Insert ungrateful..keep me in prayer.  He said he couldn’t get it to dissolve.  Really ?  It’ s hot chocolate! I decided I was going to try it.  Boy was he right.  I blew up the microwave and still had all the chocolates in the bottom of the cup…Hot Chocolate equals a Hot Mess!

1-IMG_6295

This layout out makes me laugh. Since I didn’t have much inventory to work with I spreaded the layout in a diagonal fashion.  The circles added a small effect without taking away from the story

1-IMG_6296

I have to thank my co worker for the title that I cut out on my silhouette and added some snap letter stickers.

1-IMG_6297

This layout does not have a ton of dimension but there are a few layers.  If you note I used all circles and polka dots.

1-IMG_6298

Banners are on of my favorite things to make.  They are simple, no need for a punch or die cutting machine.  TIP: take a rectangle, make a 1/2 inch cut in the middle on one end.  Clip from edge to to 1/2 inch center and repeat! All done1

1-IMG_6299

I think the Hashtag thing is so fun so I added to a chipboard hashtag from the kit and letter stickers.

1-IMG_6303

1-IMG_6302 1-IMG_6301

1-IMG_6300I love how the journaling turned out.  Its a great way to use your stamps on your layouts.  I have some really funny sayings and decided to incorporate them in to my journaling. TIP: Use your stamps in your layouts!!

Here and Now

Hola,

I pray wherever you are spring has arrived and our crafting is abundant!  I have been busy but a good busy.   I have some mini albums and custom cards coming up….yay.  I want to start laying down the foundation pages this weekend since it will be a 3 day weekend.  Woot Woot!  I often lay down foundation pages and pick them up at a later time when I have my photo  and story ready.  That’s is what happened here. Spousie and I are not often in the pictures together so I decided we’re just gonna have fun with a few selfies to capture us …Here and Now.

1-IMG_6266

Whoa a Black Layout!  Don’t be afraid to work black cardstock.  I used a pack of 3 x 4 mini placemats from Jillibean Soups.  I knew when I first saw the mini placemats I was going to add them on a black background in a Grid Shape. So this sat for over a month before I had the perfect photo.

1-IMG_6268

I wasn’t sure if or how I was going to get a title on this and then it hit me…Here and Now. I used thickers and viola!

1-IMG_6267

Not a ton of dimension here just all the little bits and pieces.  TIP: to not make your embellies seem random repeat them throughout the layout.  Here I used the hearts and of course the potty people :).

1-IMG_6271

I added stickers and a few wood embellishments.

1-IMG_6270

1-IMG_6269

I added a little tag for journaling and that was it!

Supplies: Bazzzil Cardstock, Scraptastic kit club wood hearts, Stickers by Love Notes by Simplestories
